At the Lampshade Hospital with Dr. DAS

Win a free Slip Cover, See Below.

This cone lampshade had some very serious health problems. Lacerations and contusions with a poor prognosis. Without immediate intervention this sad old shade could have died an ignoble death filling up a landfill instead of giving pleasure to its owner.

Enter Dr. DAS. Because of the nature of the injuries Dr. DAS decided on solid velvet fabrics to hide the accumulated scares.  With a quick snip here and a little color there, sewing up the patient and putting her on the road back to lampshade health was as easy as putting on a tee shirt. The patient was feeling so well she chose two Slip Covers for different looks.

Contest to win a Free Lampshade Slip Cover

Do you have a dying lampshade like this one? Let Dr. DAS help. Send us a picture of the most unhealthy lampshade you own. The sickest lampshade wins a free slip cover.
Visit our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/DRESSASHADE, to post your photo or send it to dressashadem@gmail.com.  All entries will be displayed here and at Facebook.

Making a Slip Cover Template

A lot of people have asked how I make a Lampshade Slip Cover. Not surprisingly it all starts with a template.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Thanks Stephanie

Our Amethyst Peacock, (AP) Slip Cover has a certain duality when put into a design scheme. Depending on the back drop, the colors in AP are able to pick up and compliment many different room decors and pattern tones.

Our wonderful customer Stephanie from Tennessee sent us this photo of our Slip Cover on a recently repainted lamp in a room artfully decorated in yellow, turquoise and green, with a light beige wall back ground.

Doesn't the Amethyst Peacock pick up all these colors well?

Having just purchased our Zebra patterned Slip Cover, we can't wait to see what Stephanie will do with that.

Wow! Stephanie Triumphs Again

Stephanie  did a real nice job with this decor motif and we aren't too proud to say our Zebra Slip Cover assisted in her masterful handling of a light green and black entertainment area.

We only wish Stephanie had a lot more lamp shades to renew.

Inexpensive Decorating at Etsy.com

As the new year unfolds unemployment remains stubbornly high and people who once thought of their homes as ATM machines are rethinking the value of everything associated with their biggest possession. This is certainly true with interior decorating.

A person’s home is more than just her castle, it is a canvas for the expression of style, color and personality. With less to spend on the home’s interior many homemakers are decorating on the cheap yet still finding many creative, colorful and unique alternatives at Etsy.com. Etsy an online marketplace of hand made and vintage items has over 800,000 sellers, 7 million registered buyers and sales of $467.8 million through November 2011.

The choices for functional, inexpensive and beautiful home furnishing at Etsy are a joy to behold for any shopper trying to make her home ‘House Beautiful’ on a dime.

One really inventive and practical Etsy shop is Dress a Shade, a lampshade slipcover which comes in many pretty colors and patterns. It is removable and washable and will add a touch of color to any room. If there is one thing in most homes that can use a periodic update it is lampshades. They are not only dust magnets but tend to get dingy over time.
Dress a Shade and Velcro Back Trim being applied to a lampshade
Dress a Shade recently had some very good news as well having been named a Home Shopping Network vendor. Dress a Shade is going to be debuting it's lampshade slipcovers and a product called Velcro Back Trim in May on the HSN network. Dress a Shade Slip Covers sell for $21.95 at Etsy, but Velcro Back Trim is an HSN exclusive and is not yet available.

Fiber and Water does the Eiffel Tower
If you are in the mood for unique wall art and are Eco oriented, (who isn't these days), then a new shop on Etsy called Fiber and Water is worth a long look. The silk screen artists at Fiber and Water combine water color ink with the natural fibers of canvas and burlap. Out of Portland ME, they have assorted themes nicely framed for hanging in the living room, den, or foyer. Fiber and Water is a cool name and their wall hangings are being coveted by Etsy shop goers at between $15 unframed and $35 framed.
Three original designs from The Cottage Cupboard
Sometimes you just have to put your head down on a nice soft lovely pillow. The Cottage Cupboard makers of designer pillow covers understands perfectly. One of the older and certainly one of the more successful Etsy shops, The Cottage Cupboard has had over 1,500 sales since it first started at Etsy in 2009. Cotton and Linen are two favorite fabrics used for their pillows and they sure look comfortable. The Cottage Cupboard's pillows are some of the best home decorating values on Etsy selling mostly under $50 for original designs.

Westmoreland Salt and Pepper Shakers
What was old, is new again at Etsy which hosts thousands of sellers of vintage items. Finding an inexpensive vintage home decor shop is merely a matter of picking from the abundance of outstanding examples. The Silk Creek Gallery's motto is "reuse and recycle" and they do that as well as anyone on Etsy. Their collection of milk glassware and decorative serving ware
is impressive and their prices excellent. These salt and pepper shakers were only $22.50.

Just because your house value isn't what it used to be doesn't mean your home has lost any real value to you; especially if you can fill it with beautiful things. At Etsy you are supporting artisans and craftspeople at their sewing machines, printing screens, jeweler's tables and refurbishing workshops all across America and beyond. At Etsy everything is hand made or vintage. Such a deal.
